Waah Drama Waah! Waah Baba Waah!

Is the Divine Drama Beyond Human Comprehension?

Bathypelagic fish are species that inhabit the bathypelagic zone of the ocean – roughly 1,000 to 4,000 meters below the surface – where sunlight never arrives. This region, often called the “midnight zone”, is marked by pitch-black darkness, immense pressure, and near-freezing temperatures.

Despite the vast difference in our habitats, bathypelagic fish and humans share a profound common bond. Every atom within both of us was formed in ancient stars. We both are carbon-based life forms, composed of the same fundamental elements – carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. Both are built from the same molecular grammar of DNA and are dependent on energy to survive. Moreover, we both share the same cosmic origin and are products of evolution on the same planet.

Yet an intriguing question arises: could any bathypelagic fish ever conceive, even in the furthest stretch of its biological imagination, of the International Space Station circling above the planet? Could it grasp the silent journey of Voyager 2 moving beyond the outer planets into interstellar space, let alone comprehend their purpose?

Perhaps this invites a humbling reflection.

If the bathypelagic fish cannot conceive of our world because it lives within the limits of its environment and cognition, might there be dimensions of reality that lie beyond the limits of ours? Just as the fish’s darkness conceals the sky, our perceptual and intellectual frameworks may conceal deeper orders of existence.

Perhaps the relationship between humans and the Divine Drama may be contemplated in a similar way to that between bathypelagic fish and humans – with one important reversal.

In this analogy, the positions reverse. Humans occupy the place of the bathypelagic fish. The Divine Drama – or a higher intelligence – occupies a vantage point beyond our conceptual horizon. Our sciences, philosophies, and technologies may be to that greater reality what drifting bioluminescence is to the cosmos: meaningful within our sphere, yet bounded.

The comparison is not meant to diminish humanity, but to place us in perspective. Yet, for those who have undertaken an inner journey and walked the silent corridors of the mind and slipped beyond its restless tides into the stillness beneath, or those who have explored the depths of their being i.e. the mind and beyond, the Divine Drama is no lifeless unfolding. The Divine Drama is a conscious and self-aware expression of boundless cosmic intelligence operating with flawless accuracy.

The bathypelagic fish lives faithfully within its depth. We live confidently within ours. But depth, as it turns out, is relative.
